Social Work in the U.K

Megan Bayliss choosing to be happy in DublinSocial work is a profession that can take your career international. Four year trained Australian social workers are highly sought after in many international settings. International experience is a valuable practice to have on your C.V,  leads to a deeper understanding of social justice and a more committed social worker.

If you have a social work degree and are considering a stint overseas please contact me so that I can put you in touch with an agency who is actively recruiting all health care professionals. The agency has contacted me because they knew I had completed a stint of social work in London and absolutely loved it.

No matter your core interest or your modality of social work, there are social work positions in many countries, and, there is  social work life  outside the area of child protection too :) . While the U.K is a natural choice for many social workers because they understand the language and the culture, do not overlook the experience of going to a totally different culture either. The reason I chose to social work in London because it was so close to the rest of the Northern Hemisphere. I worked long hours during the week so that I could flex on Fridays and travel all throughout Europe. I LOVED it. The pic is of me in Dublin…freezing but very happy.

So….calling all social workers: travel, experience, promotion and pleasing pay awaits you today. Contact me for more information and tips on how to get the most out of your international social work experience.

As a nurse, I can truly say that a good social worker is a Godsend. Thanks for all that you do

  2. I worked for 23 years in the public schools in the US with most of that time spent as an elementary school counselor, which made me the main reporter of child abuse to social workers at child protective services.

Overall, I didn’t get a good impression. The basic problem that I found in most districts was a high turnover rate among social workers due to low pay. The voice on the other end of the line would change frequently, and I always had a sense of apprehension calling in cases. Responses weren’t consistent; the same level of possible abuse that might result in “We’ll make a note of it” one day could end up with the police at the door of the parent’s house the next…

  3. How in the world did you ever survive the cold?

I am so giggling at Brenda’s question!!!!
And Miss V thinks that is a pretend photo because, “Aunty Megan NEVER wears that many clothes!”
