The BITSS model of Protective Behaviours is designed to use everyday household items to reinforce protective play on a DAILY BASIS. However, we do have a small selection of other resources to assist in teaching protective play.
Remember to always supervise when children are playing with these resources. Some of them may contain small removable parts that could cause choking or other harm. Imaginif Pty Ltd cannot be responsible for what happens with any resources once they have left our supervision.
Because toys are not our core business, we do not offer a return policy. Please choose carefully. All purchases are at your own risk.
Check back to our Protective Play shop from time to time as our Protective Play stocks change on a regular basis.

Bitss of Caramel Marmalade on Toast
A Protective Behaviour chapter book about body ownership. Suitable for ages 8+.
Bitssy is too scared to go outside because the Caramel monster will murder her family. On her first bold venture into the world out front, the monster seizes Bitssy and a dreadful end-of-the-line war erupts. Defeated, and in her final heartbreaking moments, Bitssy heeds a haunting echo to take her body wherever she wants without fear of being hurt. Drawing heavily upon her inborn wildness, Bitssy calls up a deep forgotten power and battles like her wise Dingo ancestors would have done. Not impressed, Caramel tries to unsuccessfully trick Bitssy’s family into keeping her trapped. When Bitssy frees herself from the jaws of deception and the coat of trickery, it is Caramel who becomes jarred by her own sour sugar coating and is carted away. Bitssy and her dying mother, finally sample a different flavour: the sweet life that was fed to them by Bitss of Caramel Marmalade on Toast.

PROTECTIVE PLAY RESOURCES FOR BODY OWNERSHIP |
 |
Body Ownership : Globe pencil sharpener
Great for teaching boundaries and for sharpening those pencils for other BITSS activities. Use the globe to show that every country has a boundary. The boundary shows the body of the country. Most of these countries have armies that help to protect the boundary. Our clothes are like an army. They help to protect our body and give a sign to other people that certain parts of our body are private – the parts we wear underwear or swimming costumes over. And…every time your child sharpens their pencil remind them to sharpen their wits (Intuition) about protecting their body.

Intuition: Squeaky Board Books & toys (4 topics – Fish, Seahorse, Dolphin and Octopus).
Sexual predators in a family home don't want others to know they're sneaking into a little one's room. When children are scared or confused they often can't cry out for help. Have a safety plan. Keep a squeaky book or toy in their bed and if someone comes in, without knocking, they can squeak the book to alert you. Have a look at this story for children ( The storybook duck that quacked me safe ) to help kids understand how to use squeaky books like a siren. WARNING: Have patience in the beginning until the “squeak for Mum” fun has worn off!.

Intuition: Cutest Puppy.
Animals are great for showing off their early warning signs. Animals have not had it trained out of them: it is an automatic process just like when we are cold we get goose bumps. When dogs are bothered by the presence of another dog the hairs on their backs are automatically raised and they often bare their teeth. This is the dog's early warning sign telling its opponent to back off!. When we scare, annoy or hurt an animal, no matter how cute they are, their body tells us to leave them alone. Because we fear being hurt by them we tend to become sensible and back off. Sometimes thought, the cutest and safest looking things can be the deadliest. This cute little puppy might have sharp claws. Ouch! Not so nice now.

No. A dingo uses it senses and checks out all situations. Dingoes also share information with their pack, just like kids can do.

Intuition: Volcano Force of Nature Science kit
Intuition is all about feelings. Most kids know anger. Did you know that anger is a secondary emotion? Wherever anger surfaces there are a whole lot of primary emotions pushing it up. Emotionally intelligent kids may have more protection from predators because they are able to identify and talk about the feelings that have pushed their anger up. Use this Volcano science kit to talk about the pressure that leads to eruptions. A FANTASTIC resource, the kit includes a sachet of plaster for forming the volcano; a vial to use as the volcano cone, sachets of specially dyed vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to make the eruption happen and a set of paints and brush to creatively decorate the volcano. Also included is a vortex valve to examine how tornados work. Information leaflet includes many fascinating facts about volcanos and tornados. Link this intuitive teachable moment with a FREE list of “feeling faces” available for download from Adoption Crossroads. Kit box size: 16 cm (h) x 12 cm (w) x 5 cm (d).

Intuition: Animals of Australia
(set of 5 - Kangaroo, Koala, Wombat, Echidna and Tasmanian Devil) .
Australian animals survive in a tough environment. Their bodies tell them when something is wrong. Each animal has different early warning signs and we can learn by watching them. Because we are Australian we can be like our animals too. We can listen to our early warning signs and tell someone when something feels yukky.

Intuition: Magic Crystal Tree.
Things are not always as they seem and we need to use our intuition (feelings) to work out if something is good or bad. Sometimes good-looking people can be very bad, and bad looking people can be very good. What do your early warning signs say about the people you see? Use these Magic Crystal Trees to talk about the difference between what we see and what we feel. A plain cardboard tree looks ugly and even scarey. But, when we watch carefully over a few days, the Magic Crystal Tree becomes a beautiful thing to be around. The magic trees consist of a sachet of crystal solution and a cardboard tree. The tree soaks up the liquid and as the liquid evaporates crystals are deposited all over the tree. Watch as the tree’s early warning signs begin to change. Educational and perfect for talking about intuition.

She nearly scared the life out of me with her big mouth and crazy hair standing on end. Read all about our playground interview here.

PROTECTIVE PLAY RESOURCES FOR TOUCH: |
 |
Touch: Safe Soap Sense - Create your own Natural Soap Kits.
Bath time offers a wonderful opportunity to talk about Good Touch/Bad Touch. Sometime Mum or Dad may have to touch your private parts to wash them, but a washing touch is quick. It becomes a bad touch if Mum or Dad, or anyone else, keep doing it over and over again. Having a bath is a good touch when the water smells nice and the soap is smooth and lovely. A bad touch is when the soap stings your eyes or your private parts. This natural soap doesn’t sting and smells fantastic. Simple enough for a child to make, this soap does no harm to either child or environment. Before the soap sets, add a mini toy (use a toy that matches one of the BITSS elements – try the Animals of Australia) and watch your child long for bath time so they can use the soap containing their treasure. Don’t forget to talk about how the treasure matches up to either body ownership, intuition, touch, say no or support network.
Kit contains: 500gm pure melt & mold soap base, 2 Fragrant Oils, 2 Soap Colors, 1 pure essential oil, 2 soap molds, 1 pkt Herbal Botanicals, & instruction booklet. Retail value of items in this kit is $47.
Perfect for home, soap making in the classroom, expressive therapy activities (use a symbol of choice to hide in soap), or have a soap making party to make protective behaviours fun and interesting.
$30.00 ea. (kit makes around 6 cakes of safe soap) |

PROTECTIVE PLAY RESOURCES FOR SAY NO: |
 |
Say No: Smencils – Good scents pencils.
Say no to harming our environment. Keep kids safe from all harms. Use Smencils during protective play: gourmet-scented pencils made from 100% recycled newspapers. Draw a picure of how your body looks when it is trying to “say no”. Write a list of words/statements that mean “say no”.
Saying “no” makes good scents.
Made from recycled newspaper instead of wood, Smencils sharpen (consider using the globe pencil sharpener and, while sharpening, talk about body ownership AND saying no) the same as other pencils but create a good touch for the olfactory sense. Keep the shavings too. They smell “scentsible”. Each Smencil comes packaged in its own Freshness Tube. Manufacturers guarantee that when stored in the tube, scent lasts for two years.
Our set of 10 Smencils contains one each of the following scents: Bubblegum, Cherry , Cookie Dough, Grape, Sarsparilla, Cinnamon, Watermelon, Pineapple, Orange , Peppermint.
Sold as a set of 10 ($12.00), a set of 5 ($6.00) or singularly ($1.20 ea). |

Say No: Solar Floating Lights
Say no to baseless fear and bring those night terrors into the light – solar of course for the protection of our world and our children’s health. Monsters are scared of light, that’s why they only visit during the dark. Help your child chase imagined monsters away forever by using a solar light at nighttime. Much kinder to the environment than electricity, there’s no chance of electrocution or fire. A groovy round light (almost like a crystal ball), hang them or sit them on something (we sit them on the floor and bedside table), the light is bright enough to see but soft enough for sleeping. No wires, no mess, no fuss, installed in seconds. Easily adjusted, relocated and moved for solar charging. Free to run, and great for teaching water safety too, these solar powered floating lights can also be used to add unique accent lighting to your swimming pool, pond, fountain or water feature (they look divine). In an assortment of red, blue, green, and white, these great lights will help you and your child feel secure, in the room or in the pool.

Say No: Finger Puppets – Galah and Kangaroo .
.
Only a Galah gives in to peer pressure. But, Galah’s are sometimes cool. They tell their friends and family everything – even if the Galah has done something silly and they’re scared they’re going to get into trouble. Pull two tail feathers from the Galah: one to remind you not to give into peer pressure and the other to remind you to talk, talk, talk. Yep, even about silly things you think you may have done. Say no to peer pressure. Say no to keeping secrets (nice surprises are okay though).
Make like a Kangaroo and hop away from danger and people who may want to hurt you. Kangaroos are strong. Nobody disses them for jumping out of harms way. When I grow up, I want to be a Kangaroo. I had better start practicing now by listening to my intuition and saying no to danger. Hop away, hop away.

PROTECTIVE PLAY RESOURCES FOR SUPPORT NETWORK: |
 |
Support Network: Sticky Hands.
Stick with your support network. They’re the people who will help you. Use the sticky hand to remind having five support people that a child can contact at any time. Safety networks need to be continually reinforced so that when a child is feeling stressed about something, particularly if it is sexual abuse, they can look at their hand and remember what to do: to call and tell someone. Tell your child that if the first support person is not available, go to the next, or the next. Encourage children to keep telling until someone does something to help and protect them. Team the sticky hand up with the natural soap kit. What a blast to wash yourself with a support network toy waiting inside. Come individually wrapped and in an assortment of bright colours. Sticky hand can be washed for ongoing protective play. A cool toy that the kids LOVE.
