My traumatic drowning & rescue by Kleinhardt in pictures

Article by Megan BaylissWater Safety: Weekend began great, had a slight watery, no air, mishap ( Women near drowns and has blogging discussion with rescuer), but all ended okay thanks to the protective actions of my party. Here’s the photography by the fantastic Jim Bitomsky of Kleinhardt. Thank you Jim and thank you to my Kleinhardt rescuers, Luke and Rob (who is now the CEO at Gulf-Savannah). I am eternally grateful.

Article by Megan Bayliss who survived to warn parents about the seriousness of watching your children while they are in the water. Do not take you eyes of them…sinking happens quickly and quietly!

It wasn’t the sharks I should have been worrying about – I should have listened to how to inflate my vest!!!!!!

 I'm away.

First to jump.

No turning back.

The dive was amazing….where’s Paul I want to tell him….Oh shit! I’ve just realized that I’ve lost the buoyancy in my vest and that the lead weights are pulling me under.

No kick left and I’m sinking

The moment of rescue.

I’ll just hang onto the rope thanks, because I actually can’t walk yet!

The above photos mightn’t look scary but it sure was when I realized that I had lost the air from my jacket and I could not stay above water. Always, always, swim and dive with others and watch your loved ones when they are in the water.

And most importantly…keep the Kleinhardt telephone details handy because they make it their business to deliver measurable benefits to clients by not allowing you to drown.

Megan you dag woman.. what would this world do without you in it. You can’t and wont go drowning on us.
I am glad that you are ok, shaken I agree but all the same glad you are ok.
    Take care darl.

  2. Oh Lisa you would have laughed if you were there…for once in my life I was silent! Looking at the pics I just wish that somebody had thrown me some lipstick…..if I look washed out and traumatised, it is because I was!

  3. I’m so glad that you are safe. That had to be a scary experience. It’s an important lesson for us all to remember. Things happen so quickly. Once a tragedy occurs it’s too late to say “If only I had…..”

  4. Good God! Megan! I’m so glad you’re okay. Bless your helpers/rescuers! You take care now, okay?

  5. Thanks Opal and Marj – I would not have died because there was people watching, but I sure would have sunk quickly and been heavy for the rescuers to pull back up. It was very, very scary. Once I couldn’t kick, I just begun to go straight down. Darn that I didn’t know which button to press to re inflate my vest!!!!!! Thank goodness for those Kleinhardt guys that saw what was happening with my vest and knew the weights would pull me down. Somebody said they saw me pulling something (which apparently made the air disappear but I was probably pulling trying to get my belt off) and suggested that I had spent far too much time on planes watching safety demos – in a dive you press the button for surface air in a vest, not pull the tabs!!! lol…I am okay and getting on with life knowing that accident and tragedy happens so quickly. It has now made me more determined to have my message of child protection spread throughout the world.
