Do it yourself therapy, a question of collection

Therapists are in the business of question collection. The above is a great question and I offer it to you for your collection. While some people collect stamps, some antiques and some Royal Doulton fine china tea trios, we therapists collect things that cost us nothing but enrich the lives of those we ask the question of.

Questions can change lives and words can help rather than hurt. Do you use your questions wisely or do you just flap off at the mouth asking questions to elicit the sound of your own voice and to make yourself sound like a wise counsellor?

After twenty years of professional and academic involvement in self development, I arrogantly thought there were few questions that would elicit deep thinking and heartfelt change in me (do it yourself therapy if you like). I thought my collection was pretty robust and that the offers I was getting for my collection (professional supervision fees) was confirmation of my most excellent collection.

[Sound buzzer] WRONG. While working through the Beyond Freedom self development course, I came upon a question that I cannot get out of my mind: If your life was a blank canvas, what is the first object you would paint? This single question has my head spinning with deep thought and I can feel the change process rising from my toes.

If my life was a blank canvas, the first thing I would paint would be bright colours coming from what will become my mouth: floral words that are petals with fragrant smells and soft beautiful touches.

I ask you now; If your life was a blank canvas, what is the first object you would paint?

The words of help and encouragement I leave you with now are: Join me in the Beyond Freedom journey of self development. The course has changed my life from good to excellent (and I’m heading toward great financial gain in it too – far more than my professional fees were bringing me).

Every day in every way, I am getting better and better. How about you?

If your life was a blank canvas, what is the first object you would paint?

I would paint a tree which would be grounded and confident yet with branches and leaves that change course with the wind.

Wow…that is a neat pic to paint. I love the metaphor and the vision I have of you repainting your life.
