Deciding life purpose

How do you decide what your life purpose is? Is it to do what you are currently doing or is it to do something so far removed from what you are currently doing that you spend your life day dreaming it into existence? Do you accept a purpose because that’s what your parents did or do you choose a purpose that you are compelled to follow for other reasons (a calling, a feeling, a choice, a pleasing thought)?

Thinking things into existence is not as far fetched as some may think. There is a volume of literature, old and new, mainstream and new age, around the value of thinking and acting in a purposeful way to create a new reality for yourself.

Many people follow the road well travelled because that is the way they were socialised: the way their parents did it so therefore the way they will also do it. They cease thinking about the world in themselves and instead think of themselves in the world – the way they do the things that have always been done to keep things ticking over.

Adventurous people dare to break the chains of the masses and see the world inside themselves: a world of choice, of difference, of variety. Instead of accepting a particular life purpose laid out by those before them, the adventurous carve their own purpose and find new roads to travel down. The adventurous decide their life purpose by purposely thinking about what they want out of life today, this year and for the rest of their life and by purposely using the thoughts to create action and change.

What is your life purpose? Do you let life just happen to you or do you think and act according to what ever is calling your attention at any given time? Perhaps you have chosen a life purpose and energetically work toward your life goal. However you do it, share your thoughts so that others can learn and grow from your experiences.

  1. For me, my purpose is more like a general theme or direction. It’s not really clear cut but I certainly have it – and developed it after many years ‘on the road’. That frame then seems to attract certain opportunities and I tend to respond to them as they come up. I certainly don’t have a burning mission in life and energetically shape my path. It’s more like a comfortable stroll .. but with a definite direction plus enjoyment of the views!

My life purpose…. To have a bloody good time!!!!!!!!!
Miss J has it sussed, I think. She asked this morning if she could wear one of Mary’s t-shirt like a dress with a belt around the middle. When I asked why she wanted to do that, she said, “Because it will make me happy!”

What are you currently thinking about your life purpose, Aunty Megan???
