Cairns Laser Tag Peace Corp

Peace keeping at Cairns Laser TagIn search of peace, I attended Laser Tag Cairns with the boys. Peace and Laser Tag are hardly synonymous terms (and I’m a conscientious objector to war and killing) but the resultant hour and a half I had to wander around the divine property was extremely peaceful.

Boy is a regular player but step father usually does the honours while I stay home and work (the boys are pictured below). After my first visit to Laser Tag (Laser Tag Teamwork), eighteen months ago, I was so impressed with the set up, the learning and the exercise that I agreed to create cognitive dissonance and allow Boy to join the club and play regularly….as long as I didn’t have to go and watch children and adults pretend play kill each other.

The Laser Tag battlefields are situated just short of the magnificent Crystal Cascades (Drive to the suburb of Redlynch, and follow the signs to Crystal Cascades). Signage for the Cairns Laser Tag battlefield is poor (there’s only two) and you need to keep a look out for this sign below. When you see it, turn right into Cairns Laser Tag (plenty of car parking and even thought the driveway looks rough and ready, it is conventional car safe)

Not overly expensive for an activity ($18.50 per game) and certainly not over priced for some parental sanity and peace, I recommend the experience for those looking for a different outdoor activity for big and little people. Games are fully supervised, and directed, and last for approximately one and a half hours (drink break in middle). Closed in shoes are a requirement and protective clothing preferable. The games take place in rainforest scrub: there’s plenty of dirt and saplings to stain good clothes! Boy has saved his pocket money to buy Camouflage (pictured) but any protective clothing is okay.

Laser Tag is suitable for all ages and abilities (not wheel chair accessible though). Adults and children do play together but the kids usually win :) There is a little shop that sells drinks and snacks or take your own. Outdoor table and chairs are situated away from the battleground and offer these views:

Popular as a birthday party and team building activity (there’s BBQ facilities available for a BYO barbie), the games frequently attract 40 people. However, I was lucky enough to attend on a quiet day (2 male adult players and 10 kid players from age 5 to 16). Only one other Mum and toddler sat up with us and watched me wander around hugging and singing to the trees (well, I was feeling at one with nature and somewhat peaceable!).

Cairns Laser Tag details:

  • Game fee: $18.50 (first time you play you MUST fill in all the insurance forms. Insurance is included in the game price).
  • Drinks: $1.50
  • Reasonably priced camo merchandise if you really have to have camos.
  • When: Games on Saturdays and Sundays (morning and afternoon sessions available)
  • Website and contact details: Laser Tag: It’s time to prey
  • Drawback: Apart from getting my own head around why on earth I would allow my child to play war games, the toilet was a drawback. That was definitely one aspect I did not enjoy!

If you are still not sure about Laser Tag as an acceptable activity, you may like to read Laser Tag Teamwork. A short description of how Laser Tag aided Boy’s ability, it may offer you an alternative framework of thinking around what may appear to be an otherwise unacceptable activity for those who value peace and child protection.

Would I go again? Yep, again and again and again.

Oh gosh what a gorgeous part of the world! Those photos are spectacular Megan, and I think the trees are totally huggable!
Boy looks very natural and at ease in his camo gear. I’d definitely want him on my team.

A ,Boy LOVES Laser Tag….I think his love of the game has been sent to try my political and philosophical views!!!!!! Yes, he does look comfortable and I would want him on my team too.

When you come up we’ll go tree discovering together. Paul is so not into trees and nature (unless he’s doing an audit on them) whereas I love them.

Was a wonderful day and the soul feeding was needed on my behalf. I love Cairns for that – there is so much natural beauty here.

Boy certainly enjoyed his laser tag yesterday. Boy suggested a game of laser tag with us today!! No good for the impaired Birdwing whose wing has not healed enough to run around the bush, or her OLD husband who knew he couldnt keep up with Boy.

Today we did a deal about cable skiing with Steve next time though – more the old boys style! He was a bare foot skiier in his day (many many years back) So it should be interesting to see him in the water again. We look forward to seeing Boy soon….

  4. lol….leaving the young and old boys to cable skiing sounds like a fine idea :) Although cable skiing in winter, brrrrrrr.
Boy had a blast with you guys. Thanks so much for that Keran.

Oh it is so nice around that area, well, anywhere around Cairns is gorgeous, but you already knew that! I wouldn’t like to play Laser Tag – I can get very ‘jumpy’ at the best of times. A game like this would have me at wits end.
